Chickpeas (Cicer arietinum) originated in the Middle East, being cultivated since at least 8400 BC. They are used in the traditional cuisine of the Middle East, Mediterranean, North Africa, India, and others. Other name for chickpea are garbanzo and chana. They come in many colors, I have tan, brown, and black growing in my garden. The unripe green seeds, leaves and sprouts are also eaten.
