Fox News • • world
Key Points:
- President Donald Trump has strongly endorsed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of Israel’s Oct. 27 national election, praising him as a "great warrior" and key ally against Iran, potentially boosting Netanyahu’s re-election bid after the Oct. 7 Hamas attack.
- Netanyahu thanked Trump for the endorsement, emphasizing their shared goal of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, a central issue in Netanyahu’s campaign and foreign policy agenda.
- Netanyahu’s political bloc, including right-wing and ultra-Orthodox parties, faces a tough election with no clear majority, risking another round of political instability if no coalition is formed.
- Critics argue Netanyahu has fallen short on promises to dismantle Hamas and Hezbollah and has faced backlash for his judicial reforms and handling of recent terror attacks, impacting his public image and legacy.
- Former Israeli ambassador Michael Oren describes Netanyahu as a "leader of history" focused on existential threats to Israel, willing to endure criticism to achieve his long-term vision, particularly regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
