When following a keto diet, some potential side effects may occur:
Dehydration:
Keto diets can cause water loss before fat loss, leading to dehydration.
Symptoms include dark-colored urine, dizziness, dry mouth, increased thirst, and tiredness. Remember to stay hydrated.
Gastrointestinal Issues:
Common side effects include constipation, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting.
Diarrhea may result from difficulty absorbing high-fat foods in the diet.
Kidney Stones:
The keto diet may increase the risk of kidney stones due to its focus on animal-based and high-fat foods.
For those with kidney disease, keto can worsen long-term kidney damage.
Reduced Athletic Performance:
Athletes may experience decreased performance during high-intensity activities on a keto diet.
