Are you asking about 100k? That is a lot. Depending on your phone. Android max per day is 200 coins and IPhone is 100. Even if you do all the challenges/reviews/mingle it will take 6-7 months to get that many coins.

Can you actually get that many coins without the potential of losing them? I guess over the course of a year but I thought I saw something about things turning over after so many days.

I believe it is 200. I got there once and the counter and stuff stopped after that point. It did reset the next day, as opposed to some people having that issue.
