Hi, My friend did join cash walk after inviting him last night, but I have not received the 1000 coins.

In order to get the 1000 coins your friend needs to collect 500 coins from walking so he needs to walk 20k steps for 2 days and then 10k another day to collect the 500 coins. Or he could also do it over the course of a few days as long as he collects 500 coins from walking in total.
