How to Start Growing Food

I want to start growing some food in my backyard but I do not know where to start. It seems like there is so much to know and learn before you can start properly.

Growing anything is a learning curve as there is no one perfect way to go about it.
What works for one person may not work for someone else. The other trick is to keep them going till you get your desired crop. It also depends upon what you're trying to grow. I would start with some things you might already have in the house, before investing in a lot of seeds. If you have raw onion, after you cut the root bottom off, place it in water. In a few days it will develop roots and long green leaves will appear. You can use the green leaves for cooking (there's your green onions/scallions). Same thing with the butt end of celery and cabbage (the cabbage will take a bit longer to get enough for a meal). Sometimes, you get the butt end of parsley in the store also and you can do it this way also. Stems of thyme abd rosemary will often root this way if they aren't too old in the store. If you have dry beans in the house, soak them longer than you would for cooking and they will sprout. You can eat these at any stage right up to those seedling leaves. These are just a start and you can experiment from there.
